Yamaha PSR-E413 Review

My son just bought a psr-e413 for his portastudio. Now he has enlisted me as the sound engineer. The e413 has a nice sound and loads of options. I wish he hadn't bought it open box. The accessory cd-rom was missing, still is actually.
He located the driver so now the keyboard is installed on his laptop. Fruity Loops sees the e413 but doesn't allow full playthrough via the usb port. I thought this missing cd was the cause of the problem.
After reading some questions that were posted elsewhere. I began to rethink my position. While having all of the "included" software is helpful. It shouldn't be mission critical.
With this thought in mind, I connected a cable from the headphone/lineout jack to a line in of his M-Audio box. We got full recognition of all instruments along with the ability to record. HMM! If your soundcard has a line in jack, with the proper patch cable you should be able to record directly into your computer.
We/I want the usb cable to do more than cost money, take up space, and waste valuable I/O space. Hmm! for those of you with the software unable to record through the usb port. I can only wonder is it something you've done wrong, not done. Or is it simply unable to take full advantage of the usb's i/o potential.
Again the psr-e413 is loaded and looks and sounds good. Just wonder'n how I would react if I had all the included software.
