Yamaha psr e413 - Songs Keep Erasing

by Jack
(NY)

I have the Yamaha psr e413 and i make my own songs on it. Once in a while i turn it on, and it says "back up clear" then all my songs are erased. How can I stop this from happening?

Think I got it
by: Jack

I think the problem might have been that I was accidentally holding down the last key while turning it on, But i will try your idea and hope it works. also my friend let me borrow his usb cable you I think that will work. thanks again for your help.

Dear Jack: The repair of the "little space..." (Adaptor Jack) should result in return of sound when you play your keyboard normally. If it was twisted it could have been muting the onboard speakers, or even have been contributing through a short circuit to the erasures you experienced in the first place.
If next, you save the song, then apply either of the Initializing procedures I described, you should have a clean slate to work with. As to the "patch cord", you will have to buy a MIDI USB
connector to link the Keyboard's MIDI Jacks to your computer. Be sure to refer to (and fully understand) the section in your Owner's Manual which outlines the steps you must follow with the Accessory CD ROM when setting up. Please realize
my suggestions are based on my Owner's Manual for the PSR E 403, which essentially applies to your 413. Do not hesitate to keep in touch. Either a savvy member, or I may be able to continue helping. Regards and good luck.

Ok Thanks

I will have to save the 1 song I just made then i will try your idea to erase everything. Do you think this has anything to do with my keyboard getting fixed? The little space where you plug in the adapter got bent, so a guy who lives near me fixed it. he does that for a job he isn't just some random guy, but that might not have any thing to do with it. Just thought it possibly could. Thanks for your help.

Dear Jack: Welcome back. You are a man of uour word. Hope you enjoyed your vacation. Let's go hand-in-hand on procedure. 1) First, HOLD DOWN the last White key to the right of the unit, and turn the keyboard ON (Still holding down the last White key). This action is known as a partial Initialization, and will automatically erase whatever has (already) been recorded. This is why I mentioned the flash stick, and you may have to buy one (They're not that costly. Be sure you buy one that has sufficient capacity. Ebay offers them occasionally in their "Daily Deals").
2) If an "out-of-the-box" (Factory Condition) is desired,HOLD DOWN the last White key PLUS the last three Black keys to the right of the unit,
and turn the keyboard ON (Still holding down the four keys mentioned). This action is known as a total Initialization, and automatically erases everything, returning the unit to a totally cleaned condition. 3) For the time being, try playing the keyboard "normally". It should behave 100%. As to the "patch cord" which links the keyboard to your computer, let's agree to follow with corresponding exchange of posts, as this one does not have the space. Get back to me at your convenience for further discussion. Keep well.

Dear Jack: I'm not sure of the "how to", but believe you should first save any recordings you now have on the keyboard (thru a Flash stick?) Next you should Partially Initialize the unit by pressing the last white key WHILE TURNING THE UNIT ON. This may restore the instrument so that new recordings can be made without the unwanted "back up clear" happening. Please do the favor of posting a followup message on this Forum so we can know how you fare, and if necessary, provide further help.
Good luck.
