Yamaha Motif - Tracks Erase or Mesh Together

I’m having problems when I am recording a song in the pattern mode. Sometimes the tracks will mysteriously erase or blend into one track and not show up on the readout. It is impossible to correct and I wind up losing many hours of work. The Motif shows plenty of memory left. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
