Parlantes con sonido bajo
by: Anonymous

Estimados.

Using function keys if display isn't working
by: Diana

My LCD display on my yamaha DGX220 is not working. I can make due with all of the song, style, or voice buttons because I can use the numeric keypad. However, I have to use the dial's category keys in order to use the 'Function' key. Without being able to see the categories on the display I cannot scroll between them and the manual does not give you a number keypad choice for these.

Can anybody who has this keyboard help me see how the 47 functions compare to the numbered keypad so I can try to work with them 'blind'.

(I have explored all the options for fixing my display and am not willing to pay to have it repaired. )

I would really like to be able to change volume, transpose and use some of these important functions.

Thanks for any ideas or help.

Transpose - Yamaha DGX 220
by: Alfred

Dear Ralph: Do the following:

1)Press the FUNCTION Button
2)Use the CATEGORY Buttons to select "TRANSPOSE" on Display
3)Use the DIAL to set the transpose value (between -100 and + 100 for small pitch changes)
& (between -12 and + 12 for large pitch changes).

Keys represented by the 0-12 and 0+12 settings are explained as follows:

When the transpose setting is at 0 then playing middle C gives a middle C. So whatever key is used to play the music will be "true" and accurately tuned.

Going up one, for example (+1), and playing middle C will sound a C#.

Lowering the transpose setting one (-1) will sound a B if the middle C is played.

This is especially helpful if singing in the original key is difficult for a vocalist, or if playing along with any "differenly tuned" instrument. Post a follow-up message if this helps. Good luck.

Yamaha DGX-220 Power Connection Problem

Hi,

I have a Yamaha DGX-220 which suddenly will not work with the AC power adapter. A voltmeter shows the PA150 I have is providing the proper voltage. I noticed that if I wiggle the connection (where power adapter plugs into the keyboard) I can get the keyboard to momentarily power on. So it appears the plug socket in the keyboard which recieves the power adapter plug is loose, or intermittent or something. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this before I try and open the thing up and see what's going on.

Thanks.

Doug

I have Yamaha dgx 230 the one with a floppy disk space. When I wake up in the morning the keyboard was completely silent but it displays on the screen. When the technician checked it power was ok, speakers were ok (even external didn't work) and he told me it's computer might be spoiled. 3 technicians tell me the same thing. One told me may be it lost firmware. Please need your advise

DGX 220 Power Connection
by: Alfred

Dear Doug: You obviously know what you are doing, as your procedure and analysis seems to be right on target. The Unit's Jack (receiving socket) probabaly is just at breaking-point from its mooring and your wiggling is producing the On/Off result.

However, before you seek out a QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN (Preferably Yamaha-authorized. carefully clean out the Adaptor Plug HOLE and the PIN of the Unit's receiving Jack. It may be that some oxidation/dirt is the culprit. Hope this helps. Good luck.

SOLDING THE AC/DC JACK
by: rITA

We turned the dgx22 keyboard side down on a thick blanket on the table.
We loosened all the screws and gently lifted the bottom up and over slightly.
We took the screws from the board with the jack and turned the board over and my husband soldered the loose soldered piece so that it was firmly attached again...(very carefully).

The loose jack was causing light up but no sound and when "wiggled", very low distorted sound.
After the solder job...everything is normal again.

Thank you for all your help. I hope this post helps someone.

Anyway I'm glad you were able to resolder the Jack for the Adaptor. answer to won't power on
by: Rita

The batteries powered it on, I did a reset...then the light would come on with AC, but not play..
we took the dgx22 back loose and resoldered the jack to the board.

The ac/dc jack was loose and we had to solder it back to the board.

It powers on both by ac and dc...it is working well.

Thank you for all your input.

Reset
by: Dick Rector

Hi Rita,

Follow Alfreds logical advice first.

If it doesn't solve the problem:
General for most keyboards.
1. - A mild reset can be done as follows:
Hold down the highest white key while powering up.
2. - A factory reset (as from coming out of the box):
Hold down the highest white key + the nearest 3 black keys while powering up the keyboard.
Warning!!! A factory reset, the second option, will DELETE everything you might have stored in any of the user areas!
A mild reset however doesn't. I do a mild reset every time I power up just to make sure I have a 'clean' start.
If this doesn't work either to solve the problem you need a prof to have a look at it. Possible a fuse (if there is one) inside is blown.

I hope this helps you, let us know please what the problem was so we all can learn from it.
Regards
Dick

No power DGX 220
by: Alfred

Dear Rita: Try different house outlets. If the keyboard works, the circuit breaker/fuse for the original outlet(s) needs attention. Next, check if the battery contacts (inside the battery compartment) are clean and making good contact when batteries are used. If after trying these actions the keyboard still does not work, the problem COULD BE the ON/OFF Switch or an open internal circuit in which case have a qualified keyboard technician repair your unit. We appreciate your post, and would like to hear from you again as to how you solved this problem. Any time you feed this Forum you are helping all of us members learn. Good luck. Kep well.

Yamaha DGX-220 Main Keyboard Speakers Have No Sound

Yamaha DGX 220 No Sound
by: Alfred

Dear Bill: I am not familiar with the DGX 220.
My turn to ask some questions.
1) Where is lead to Amplifier connected? You should know that if connected at Headphone Jack, the internal Speakers are normally automatically cut off.
2) Are actual ?PLAYED? Sounds, reproduced by Amplifier when keys are pressed? Begs question 'does unit have optional Battery power feature'? If so AND USED, you should know that the Battery circuit is separate from the Adaptor circuit. Is the volume normal if/when battery powered?
3) The defective DC Adaptor Input Jack (unsoldered)probably has no effect on Volume. (Get it repaired by qualified tech ASAP).
I await your info in the hope I can be of further help. Thanks for contacting us.

Yamaha DGX 220 Sustain
by: Alfred

Dear Ryan: I?m not familiar with the DGX 220, and I submit these comments with some trepidation even though their execution will probably not harm your unit:
a) If your unit has a ?Sustain? Jack at its rear panel, and you use a Sustain Pedal, PLUG IT IN BEFORE TURNING the unit ON. This ensures correct polarity will be maintained. Do not press the pedal at any time until you do this.
b) Check if your unit has a ?Function? Control/ Button which may have to be be activated to allow you to scroll for ?Sustain?; or if your unit has an individual Control/ Button which needs to be pressed.
c) Check the Internet for free download of a corresponding Owner?s manual. Yamaha?s manuals are notoriously badly edited, but serve their purpose once you get their gist.
If my ?mano a mano? instructions work, you are indebted to the Forum, and we expect you to be AN ACTIVE MEMBER with frequent visits so we can all profit from your comments/questions. (If my instructions do not work, perhaps some other member will come to your rescue). Keep well and good luck.

Yamaha DGX 220 Low output level!!!

by sgd
(singapore)

My DGX 220 was connected to an amplifier for a stage performance. The sound operator complained about the low level of output signal, due to which the production volume of the sound in the hall was very low even at the maximum level at the DGX-keyboard and the amplifier. At the same time few other key boards were working fine. Then this problem was solved by some kind of "uncompressing" (this is the word that was used by the sound operator) the signal in the amplifier. Is it really a problem at all or there is parameters that must be adjusted while connecting the key board to amplifier?

low level
by: Dick Rector

Hi,

Try your keyboard on a different amplifier or even on a home stereo.
If the level is ok, volumeknob let's say halfway, you have no problem and the setting on the mentioned amplifier was most likely wrong.
Compressing an incoming signal, like what was done, is normally needed when the input level is to high. If your given-out signal was normal, compressing is not necessary and gives a low level output.
However, if the test gives a bad result, there is something wrong with your keyboard and you should have it checked by an qualified person.

Yamaha DGX-220 All Bb and E keys above middle C not playing

This happened to me once at a gig just before Christmas and then resolved itself but it has just started up again and seems more persistent.

As per the title, every E and Bb key above middle C will not play and the display give no indication that the key has been pressed either.

Switching off and back on makes no difference but eventually the keys seem to start to work again.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Simply a suggestion to Robert
by: Anonymous

Hi Robert,
Most propably your defect can be rectified
by replacing the rubber pads beneath the keys or by
wiping the Printed circuit board underneath the rubber pad by a clean soft cloth .Better to go and contact any Yamaha keyboard service personnel. If you wanna do it by yourself ,please be careful in opening the keyboard ,and fixing all the connections
and the paddings back appropriately.

But as a second thinking
the defect is there for all the Bb and E keys after
middle c ,it can be a software problem also.so get it repaired soon by a trained yamaha service person.

contact pads??
by: Dick Rector

Hi Robert,

Distant guessing of course but it is most likely a defect rubber-underlay-contact-pad.
Signals from keys of the same kind will find their way to the soundprocessor using the same path so to speak.
That's why more than one is not working. It is a common defect with older or a bit rough played keyboards.
Unless you are skilled in this you will need a (Yamaha-trained) repair person to replace the pads.

Same Problem
by: Vitor Brazil

Hello,
I've bought my keyboard in Best Buy NY in December 2006. I take care of it. However, last year 2009 I sent it to mainteinance because A and D# keys where not playing in any of its octaves. They told me the rubber was loose, and fixed that for me. It worked until now April 2010 when the same problem appeared. I'm thinking seriolusly about not buying Yamaha items again because in less than one year I have had the same problem twice.
