Yamaha CLP 500 Repair

We have a CLP 500 which is at least 20 years old. It was working fine til we moved to a new house. Professional movers moved our belongings. When it was first plugged in and played, there was a loud electrical static type sound. Almost sounded like it was about to burst into flames or explode! Haven't tried to use it since. Any chance my husband, who is quite the DIY guy, could get into it and repair it?
