Yamaha Clavinova CLP230 - works but does not work!

My Yamaha Clavinova CLP230 works in Grand Piano mode, but none of the other buttons work. What could be wrong, and is there a way to reset this?

I had the same problem.
This one worked for me, with a slight difference. Instead of C2# , F2 , G2# to run the test programm, I had to use C3# , F3 , G3#.

Here was my cure to the issue :

1. Entering the Test Program :
Turn on the power with C2# , F2 , G2# keys pressed and held.
The test program will run and the 7segment LED will indicate 'TST'
2. Proceeding the Test :
(1) Press TEMPO/FUNCTION# [t] or [s] button to select a test item.
(2) Press [METRONOME ON/OFF] button to execute the current test.
(3) After executing the current test, press [METRONOME ON/OFF] button to return to the wait state

The FULL RESET function is 47 ,so select the 47.
47 (47: Factory Set Factory Set
FAC It sets all to the factory default settings. It takes about 7 seconds.
48 (48: Test Exit Exit the test program and return to the play mode

Thank you again! Found in the manual you send how to do factory reset (not the one with white+3black) and it helped! So no need to bring it to support anymore .

Several years ago, I had a long discussion with Yahama's service and convinced them to reprogram the board if I was to send it in. I was going to do it, but my daughter needed to practice and could not be without a piano for 2+ weeks, so I did not do it. Since then, I bought an acoustic piano, so the CLP-230 is just a backup. I kept it and do the reset from time to time.

Hello,
I have the very same problem as described by most contributors of this post. I have a Yamaha Clavinova CLP230 bought in 2005 that worked fine until all the buttons of the control panel stopped working. I tried both soft and hard reset procedures with no durable success. The piano is still working in Grand piano mode.
Can anyone give me access to Yamaha Bulletin No. 460 and 463 ?
Has anyone solved this kind of issue ? I would appreciate any useful info. Thank you.

I haven't read a solution to the problem where the buttons no longer work on the CLP-230.
I can only access the Grand Piano and I tried all the reset tricks.

Yamaha Bulletin No. 463 states that there is a software problem. The permanent fix is to exchange the Program ROM or the DM Circuit Board.
Yamaha Bulletin No.460 1/19 states that there is a temporary service response which says to execute factory set in TEST MODE, then EXIT TEST MODE.
I can share the PDF file I have if anyone is interested.

I have the same problem - namely that Yamaha Clavinova CLP230 works in Grand Piano mode, but the other buttons work stopped working.

Dear H IF your unit is anything like a PSR series unit, try two separate ways for a Reset. The first will perform a Partial Initializing:
1) Turn the Unit OFF, then holding down the last White key, turn the Unit ON again. This will erase all Panel User Settings, Registration Memory, User Songs, Style File. This means all your backed up data.
For a total "Back-to-Factory" Initializing:
2) Turn the Unit OFF, then holding down the last White Key plus the last three Black keys turn the Unit ON again. This will erase everything, literally restoring the keyboard to “Factory, Out-of-the-Box” condition. (Everything, including MIDI downloaded info will be erased).
The above, as mentioned, applies to PSR series units. Try it anyway as no harm will be done to yours. If the suggestions work, could you please post a message in this Forum, so other members can benefit from your experience. If the actions do not work, hopefully some other kind owner of a CLP 230 will help. Keep well and good luck.
