Power requirements conversion of a Japan-sourced Yamaha SY77

by Richard H
(Berthoud, Colorado, USA)

I have purchased a Yamaha SY77 from a source in Japan. Power requirements for the Japanese keyboard are 100W 20V 50/60Hz~. I currently own a USA SY77, its power requirements are 120W 28V 60Hz~. How would I go about operating the Japanese keyboard here in the USA without damaging its electronics because of the difference in power requirements? Are the voltage requirements within the 2 boards the same, after passing through the internal transformer, so that the Japanese board would only need an internal transformer change? Or is there an external transformer option? Please advise.

I tried contacting Yamaha support directly, but they replied that they don't support the SY77 anymore. Sure am hoping someone here can help me. Perhaps a tech, or someone who has dealt with this very issue... or someone who can direct me to someone or a website, who can help.....

Thank you for your assistance!

Powering Japanese Yamaha SY77 In USA NEW
by: Anonymous

The power requirements for the Japanese SY77 and the USA SY77 are different, so it is important to use a voltage converter or transformer to ensure that the voltage is properly converted to the correct level before being used with the Japanese keyboard.

An external transformer would be a good option to use, as it would convert the voltage to the correct level before it reaches the internal transformer of the keyboard. This would be the most efficient and safest way to operate the Japanese keyboard in the USA without damaging its electronics. You can search for a voltage converter or transformer that is rated for the specific power requirements of your Japanese SY77. Look for a transformer with a voltage rating of 100V-120V, a capacity of 20V and 50/60Hz.

It is recommended to consult with an electrician or a professional technician before making any changes to the power requirements of your device.
