Playing auto-accompaniment chords

by Alan McMaster
(Maumee, Ohio USA)

Page 24 of the user manual for the DGX-230 keyboards shows how to play auto-accompaniment chords. I can't seem to change the voice to the left of the split when I am in this mode. I can change the voice to the right of the split. How can I change the voice on the left?

Auto accompaniment
by: Dick Rector

Hi Alan,

A little note: Styles in the accomp. have fixed voices. You can change these only on a so called sequencer keyboard or on a computer using sequencer software. A good and free program for doing that you will find on PSRTUTORIAL.COM and is made by Michael Bedesem. It is called MIDIPLAYER.
Mind if you are new to this it can be a complicated task before you re-created a good sounding style.

Regards
Dick

Dear Alan: Thank you for the acknowledgement. I am very glad my suggestion helped. As you progress in the use of your unit, there probably will be other questions/comments you will want to post in this Forum. Some of them may be helpful to other members who own the same unit, and when they acknowledge the benefit derived, you will better understand the pleasure of having lent a helping hand. This said, I hope you will continue to be in touch. Remember what I said about Yamaha Owner Manuals! In the meantime keep well and enjoy your DGX. Alfred

Alfred, thanks for the suggestion. I was able to change the split voice once I explored the "function" a bit more. Thanks again.

Yamaha DGX 230 Auto-accompaniment
by: Alfred

Dear Alan: I am not familiar with your unit. However, some Yamaha keyboards have preset Accompaniment/Styles. I believe your keyboard may have (in addition) a Split and a Dual Voice
feature, sometimes accessed through the FUNCTION mode. Be forewarned that Yamaha Manuals are notorious for PP Editing which only serve to confuse users, and you may have to experiment (and make notes)in order to arrive at the correct setting. If the foregoing does not help, perhaps some other member will post a clearer explanation. Don't hesitate ro come back if you feel I can be of further assistance. Thanks for contacting us. Good luck.
