New Motherboard for a Yamaha Clavinova CVP 85A?

We had a new CVP 85A sent out to us here in Kenya in 1995, and it gave many years of good service. However, about two two years ago it began to malfunction, initially in the disc drive, then more generally. It has become progressively worse, and now we are suffering from similar problems as John Howard Norfolks (5.2.10). We have tried the re-set key at the far right of the keyboard, and indeed this works, but for a limited time only - like a few minutes. The motherboard has been repaired three times, but now seems to be beyond it. The technician thinks that a new motherboard might solve the disc drive problem as well as everything else. The climate in Nairobi is warm and dry, so excessive humidity cannot be the problem, but something seems to be corroding the motherboard. Are motherboards still available for the CVP 85a, and if so are they available in an up-graded form, i.e. able to run a flash disc through a USB instead of the disc drive? How can we get one? We have tried to contact the Dubai office of Yamaha, responsible for Africa but to no avail. Does anyone have a contact at Milton Keynes?

I have a Clavanova Model CVP-85A I bought new several years ago. It has been re-conditioned and works perfect. I am asking $600.00 (The mother board would cost more even if you could find one. Dear Barrie: Just realized I did not miss your original post and you submitted the additional one under that re P 85. As far as I know the (Yamaha) Dubai operation covers Kenya.

Dear Jean & Barrie: I read with interest your post regarding your CVP 85. Here's a (constructive?) opinion, not knowing your lay of the land:

1)DEPENDING ON YOUR BUDGET think about buying a USED later model locally.

2)Locating a motherboard may restore your Unit to working condition, but such parts are probably becoming (if not already) difficult to find, and may be the reason why Yamaha?s Dubai operation is ?of no avail?. As the CVP 85 is somewhat old by today?s standards, parts are going to be more and more difficult to locate, and other internal components of your instrument are likely to unexpectedly give up the ghost resulting in the same dilemna.

3) This Forum has no connection to the Yamaha Corp., and this comment is offered, and is intended to be understood in a positive spirit. In the hope that it helps, we wish you Good Luck.
