Can I replace the floppy disk unit that no longer works on my Yamaha PSR 620?

by Diane Marshall
(Lakewood, Ohio)

I dearly love my Yamaha PSR 620 and it works fine EXCEPT the floppy disk won't boot anymore. Can I find the right unit and replace it myself (I can't afford any expensive repair place that will charge me $200. just for their 2 hrs. time!)

Please write to me at: ohioweaver@aol.com

I'm a Senior Citizen (74) and fixed income is still fixed and my keyboard has been with me for a number of years. All of the music I sequenced using it is on my webpages: www.midigal.com

We were Old Timers who played Old Time music.
Thank you
Diane Marshall

I so appreciate all of your help.

I have decided to do the suggestion this way: I've ordered the disk drive belt from Yamaha because after discussion, this is most often the problem and not the drive itself. When I get it and then exchange them, I'll report back HERE with the results.
The Yamaha Parts dept. from their keyboard website is fantastic with their help! You can actually SPEAK at no charge with the techie about any problem. I can't believe that in today's society of companies who give you only RECORDINGS and buttons to push for more recording that here is a sensible company that REALLY WANTS TO HELP YOU after you purchase one of their products!
Yeah Yamaha!

Dear Diane,

I have answered your question yesterday on another forum.
Today I will send you a mail and a zipfile with info about the possibilities.
Yes it is possible to change the drive as long as it is the same sort as Yamaha uses or it might NOT work.
Details will be in my mail to you.

Dick
